How can we help?

Here are answers to the most common questions about coBudget. If you cannot find the answer, write to us.

Getting started

What is the difference between Overall, Budget account and Savings?

Overall is your main account: income minus the fixed transfers to the budget account and savings, minus the expenses paid straight from the main account.

Budget account shows the fixed transfer against the expenses paid from it. Savings shows the transfer to your savings and what you take out.

You switch between them at the top of the overview. If you do not have a budget account or savings, turn them off in Settings โ†’ Accounts.

Why does the app show the "lowest balance" instead of "available"?

Fixed expenses do not come evenly โ€“ your insurance may only be paid twice a year. The lowest balance shows the month with the least money in the account, so you can see whether it lasts all year.

An account goes negative. What do I do?

Tap the warning or go to the Accounts tab. The app suggests raising the fixed transfer, making a one-off deposit, or a combination โ€“ with the exact amounts. A one-off deposit can be registered with one tap.

Can the budget year start in a month other than January?

Yes. In Settings โ†’ Budget year you choose the month the year starts in, e.g. 1 July. This is also where you set the opening balance of each account.

Items

How do I change an amount without changing earlier months?

Open the item and tap Change amount from a date, or edit the item and choose From now on. The new amount then applies from the next payment, and the price history is kept. If you choose To the whole history, every payment changes.

How do I add a one-off amount?

Create a new item and choose One-off under "How often is it paid". Then pick the month and day.

Can I create my own types and payment methods?

Yes. Tap + New type when you create an item, and choose a name and an icon. You create your own payment methods with Other under "Paid with". You can delete them again in Settings โ†’ Your own types and payment methods.

Backup and sync

How do I make a backup?

Go to Settings โ†’ Save backup. The app creates a .cobudget file that you can save in Files or iCloud Drive. You can also turn on a monthly reminder.

How do I restore from a backup?

Settings โ†’ Restore from backup, and pick the file. The data on the device is replaced by the data in the file.

How do I sync between iPhone and iPad?
  1. Sign in to the same iCloud account on both devices.
  2. On the first: Settings โ†’ iCloud sync, turn it on and choose a password.
  3. Open the app on the other device. It finds the file in iCloud โ€“ enter the same password.

Every time you open the app, it checks for newer data from the other device and asks whether to load it.

I forgot my sync password

The file in iCloud is encrypted, and the password is only stored on your devices. It therefore cannot be recovered โ€“ not even by us. If the password is still saved on one of your devices, make a backup from there, turn sync off, and set it up again with a new password.

I have a new phone

If you use iCloud sync, install the app, open it and choose Found in iCloud. Otherwise save a backup on the old phone and restore it on the new one.

Other

Can I export the year table?

Yes. On the Year table tab, tap the share button and choose CSV (for spreadsheets) or PDF (A4 landscape).

How do I delete all my data?

Settings โ†’ Delete all data. You are asked twice before anything is deleted. If you use iCloud sync, it is turned off on the device, and the file stays in iCloud until you delete it yourself in Files โ†’ iCloud Drive โ†’ coBudget.

Can I change the language?

Yes, in Settings โ†’ Language: tap the Danish or the British flag.
